Under the Umbrella

So in honor of my dear friend, I am going to do Wednesday's Walk.

One of my favorite pictures of me is this one under the umbrella. I don't know why I like it so much. Maybe, because I was a pretty cute kid LOL, or the way the camera grabbed the moment or maybe it is the memory behind the day. Whatever the reason it is a favorite of mine and my parents.

We were down in Missouri during their hot summer days. My Aunt and my three cousins lived in a house out in the country. That day, she got out the sprinkler and the umbrella and let us dance around under the falling water. I loved that we got to use the yellow umbrella it made playing in the sprinkler all that more exciting. I remember having so much fun with my cousins that we saw maybe once a year. It was a great day and time with my family.

My family has become such an important part of my life, even my aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. I love them so very much and treasure every moment, every memory with them. It is so amazing how God designed us and our families and how much we need them in our lives.

It also helps me realize the value of my church family, my brothers and sisters in Christ. I have no family here were we pastor; but I have a church family here. God has been showing me how all of them love me just like my real family and how wonderful they are. It helps me know I am not alone even when my real family is hours away, they are my real family here at home. They are worth fighting for, investing in and giving my heart to.

Thanks God for loving us and giving us umbrellas, sprinklers and family, with that I will....

31 Virtues for our Kids ~ Peace-loving

Peace-Loving

Over the next few months we will be praying for
31 Virtues for our Kids maybe even for ourselves too!

Romans 14:19 (New International Version)
Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.

"MOM, sissy touched my stuff!" "MOM, she won't leave me alone!" "MOM, she is looking at me!" "MOM, tell her to get off of me!" "MOM, she is hurting me!" MOM, she is being mean to me!" "MOM, MOM, MOM!" Yikes, sometimes my house doesn't seem too peaceful or loving at times. Sometimes, my home is just enough madness to drive this 34 year old mom to the nut house.

Yet, during these times somehow I have to teach them to be peaceful and loving. That is hard to do when little girls are looking at you with angry eyebrows, arms crossed, and a stomping foot. Maybe, you have seen that look at your house too?!

What a valuable lesson to learn at an early age, because we all know it doesn't get easier as we turn into adults. Adults they run into can be a lot more mean, more stubborn, less forgiving and hold on to grudges for far too long. I actually find that kids forgive easier, love easier and get over it easier than us grownups. So, if they can get this making peace thing down as they are young that can carry that into adulthood.

I also have to remember that I am their example and live peacefully with one another. I think God wanted me to hear that today...so God I will do my best!

That picture is of me when I was little. It is the same look my girls give me. hahahaha

31 Virtues for our Kids ~ Kindness

Kindness

Over the next few months we will be praying for
31 Virtues for our Kids maybe even for ourselves too!

1 Thessalonians 5:15 (New International Version)
15Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.

My youngest daughter loves kittens! She is so sweet, tender and kind when she is around them. It is really cute to see how much she adores them and wants to have one. Many times, if it were not for my allergies this mommy would have taken a kitten home.

Kindness is something I have strongly taught to my children. However, I need God to give them His kindness. His kindness is much bigger and more encompassing than anything we can conjure up. Because it is easy to be kind to cute little kittens but it may not be so easy to be kind to the kid that bullies you at school.

I Thessalonians 5:15 can be a tough verse to live at times. Here we see God's command to give kindness even when we have been wronged...Ouch! It is a hard lesson to learn but a most valuable one in the sanctification process, if becoming like Jesus is our goal.

I am gonna brag a moment about my oldest here so bear with me; because it is tender moments like these that show us that they get it. A few weeks ago we did a fundraiser for Convoy of Hope that is feeding people in Haiti. (I did a blog about it if you would like to check it out.) The kid who raised the most money would be given $50.00. My oldest won!

When I gave my daughter the prize money without hesitation she whispered in my ear that she wanted to give half back to feed the people that need it. I nearly cried in front of everybody, there were definitely tears. I told her she didn't have to do that but that is what she wanted to do. I was so proud of her. My two daughters raised $400.00! I was so proud of them; but it wasn't about the prize it was about helping those in need...and my oldest got it!

Watch for moments like that with all our children it will bless your heart and encourage us to be good examples of kindness. There little eyes are watching us and looking to us to show us how to be kind.

*"Lord, may my children always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else."

Ship Ahoy!

So yeah, it is pinewood derby time around the Johnson household. And this year's may be the pinnacle of my car making career. I may even have out done my 1st place car of last year in design. But...will it even be considered a car...because it actually is a boat? Well, considering last years was not a car either we should be fine.
This year I actually got brave and cut out my own car and the girl's cars. I was so scared that I would cut off one of my fingers. I didn't...or there would be a whole other blog about that and I would probabl t pe like t is. hehehe Here is a picture of my car/boat without the sail. Oh, I have to admit I had help building the mast.

The sail folds down so it can race. I don't expect to do well in speed...I expect to come in last. I don't care ...it is all about the creativity for me.
.
My first car is the inspiration for the sail. The boats name is MPACT! Which is the name of our girls ministries group and who is participating in the derby along with the Royal Rangers. John thought the name was funny for a boat though because you would not want someone to run into it. I agree...I worked to hard on this bad boy!

Here it is, the body all finished...now all it needs are the wheels. It will be interesting to see what it does next Saturday!

Loving it!

Blast from the Past ~ My Dog

This is a post from my old blog!

Eowyn Drama, UGH!

Eowyn, my nice white dog after being in the rain and digging. Did I ever tell you she likes to dig? EVERYWHERE!

Two weeks ago a police officer pulls into our yard. He said that someone called in a complaint about our never ending barking dog. (I was thinking secretly..."Thanks God for giving me a reason to get rid of her... she is not fixable, right? Shhhh, don't tell anyone.) They didn't file a report or he would have had to give me a ticket for disturbing the peace. You got to be kidding me...what about me peace! So, $80 bucks bought us silence. Who ever invented a spraying no bark collar is a genius! Yeah, my dog has more money around her neck than I do.

So I feel like I am stuck in some sorta weird dog soap opera. Who knew there could be so much drama with a dog? It's like when you think things are just starting to settle down....Bam another 175 bucks! Yeah, Eowyn ruptured her Cranial Cruciate Ligament. I am right now like...What In The World! UGH! So how does a dog rupture her cranial cruciate ligament? Playing outside with me. UGH!

She was running...

and going up my deck stairs....

and twist to go a different direction....

and slammed right into the deck.

UGH!

I really do feel bad for her. For some reason all this drama causes drama with my girls too. I am afraid to tell them anything because "WE DON'T WANT THE DOG TO DIE!" UGH!

Treatment is to give her pain killers and a joint repairing medication. If that doesn't work it's a FIFTEEN HUNDRED DOLLAR SURGERY! All John said is, "NO WAY!"

So, I am asking all my friends and family to pray for our dog. Yes...it has come to this. UGH! Rachel in church asked the congregation to pray for Eowyn. Everyone was like "Awe poor thing"... and I was like "UGH"!

Pray for our dog and pray for my sanity.

Eowyn, She is fearless and high-hearted. All love her

We have a new edition to the Johnson household. Her name is Eowyn, (Eh-Ah-Win) and she comes from middle earth. Well, at least that is where I am beginning to think she really comes from.

Actually, she is not a lady of Rohan but merely an American Eskimo. She is not a horse lover but I think she loves to pee a lot. Unlike Eowyn from middle earth who says, ""No living man am I! You look upon a woman." She is a dog.

We have adopted a dog to go along with our adopted hamster, Wilbur, who appeared to need a friend. She belonged to three others, before finally finding her way to us. My sister was the previous owner and says she misses her...but I think she lies.

We have had her for one week but it seems a lot longer. She is really good except, she has accidents, eats her poop, barfs, pees a lot, eats just about anything left on the floor, pees a lot, jumps on people, jumps on furniture, pees a lot, nips, barks, did I mention pees a lot, barks some more, and just recently likes to dig large holes in my yard and lastly pees a lot.

I had to take her to the vet because she pees so much (13x a day). They had me take her out and pee in a tray. I said, "You want me to do WHAT?!" She has a bladder and ear infection. They gave me a lot of instructions for her medication and I said, "You want me to do WHAT?!" Lastly, they told me how much the bill was and I said, "WHAT!" So $170.00 later I became an official pet owner.

Eowyn, is a beautiful dog and 10 years from now I know I will really love her. Welcome Eowyn, Welcome!

Miracle of Christmas

Lately, I have been wondering, when I look at my son, what Mary must have felt in that stable so long ago. Did she really understand all that was happening that night? She must have known that it was something far greater than anything she could imagine. Why else would an angel have come to visit her? For in that cradle was her baby, the son of God

When my son was placed in my arms for the first time my heart ached for him as I kissed his soft head. My eyes gazed into his. My ears longed to hear his steady heartbeat. So when Joseph placed the King of Kings in her arms can you imagine the depth of love that came from her heart? Not only was she holding her son but also the God of the universe the Savior of her soul.

How blessed Mary was to serve her Lord in such away; to wipe his tears when he cried, to feed him his food, to picking him up as he learned to walk. I do things just like this for my children and it is a way of expressing my love and care for them in that someday when they are grown that they will love God and do His work. But Mary she was preparing and caring for our Savior the one who would die for all of us. As she sat at the foot of the cross can you imagine at all her feelings and thoughts?

Mary was just a person like you and me. When she thought of who He was and who she was did she feel inadequate? But yet God choose her. Maybe, Mary knew that it is in our inadequacies that is when God becomes strong and enables us to the job we feel that we simply could never do.

Lord, help me to be more willing to do what you have called me to do. To serve you faithfully like Mary; to love you because you first loved me. Thank you, my Father, for coming and purchasing my salvation on the cross so long ago. Help us all to know that when we ask, you come to live in our hearts. You are more than wonderful and your love, Oh God is rich, is pure, is measureless and strong, and it shall forevermore endure. So this season when you see a small baby remember Christ, remember the miracle, remember His love, remember the price He paid, remember the precious gift that is given to all, and remember our job to tell the world about our Lord and Savior, Jesus.

A word from the hospital!
Current mood: drained
I feel a little disconnected from my world; so I thought I would make an attempt while I have a chance. So here is what happened on Monday:

We arrived at the hospital at about 7:00 am. We then began the induction process after many attempts to help little Micah come out, it was to no avail. My doctor came into the room and said I was just not making any progress and it was time to consider a c-section, which I was not thrilled about at all. But, in a moment when your child maybe in some sort of danger it wasn't a hard decision at all in fact my yes came with great certainty. He was facing the wrong way, head was not straight, and his heart rate dropped with every contraction and later we did find out that the cord was around his neck. So off to the surgery room…

When I was wheeled in there, all I could notice was the bright lights from the ceiling and people rushing all around me in between contractions that never seemed to stop. They lifted me from my bed to the table with such ease that kind of surprised me. The anesthesiologist then began her spinal tap/block or something that numbed my body up to my neck. There where two problems here, one being that they couldn't find a place to get it in (which there is much bruising as a result) and secondly my body wasn't becoming numb properly. When they started cutting I could feel it. Yikes! Then came the local numbing and morphine....Here is when things become fuzzy, you know the teacher in Charlie Brown movies and how she talked that is what began to happen. Then the room began to zoom in and out. However, I could here some distinct things like Micah crying and then John bringing him to me so I could kiss him. The rest is almost a dream; I do remember that I began to sing quietly because I was scared there was something wrong happening. Here is what I sang"You are my God, You are My King, You are my Maker, My everything" ………Then I woke up in my room.

There were a few problems and I bled a lot during surgery. I later passed out and vomited. My hemoglobin dropped to a 6 something and yesterday I was a recipient of some ones blood donation.

I am feeling much better. Yesterday, I got to just enjoy my new little boy who I love so much. His head is so soft and he smells perfectly of baby. He is everything that I have dreamed he would be the last 40 weeks. He is my joy in pain. He is amazing, my little one. He is truly God's great gift to me.

Welcome to the world my son!

My Baby Boy!

So, we are going to have a boy Sept. 13th! I am excited, but a little nervous. For the past eight years, I have done the girl thing. I know girls! Boy's are totally different. It will be fun! My dad was really excited about having a grandson! He has been around way too many girls his entire life. Now he has someone to do all his Royal Ranger stuff with!

Baby Picture!

So here is my beautiful baby. He/She is only seven and half weeks old, so you can't figure out what gender my baby is yet. We will just have to wait 8 weeks for that. But, you could see it's little heart beating. Nothing could calm my heart more than seeing that little heart fluttering. When you have had a mischarriage before, seeing that wonderful heart beating strong just gets you excited. So, today I am one happy mommy!
I love you already, baby!

White Elephant

So I know it is Christmas time, because I always get invited to a handful of white elephant exchange Christmas parties. OH, how I love those! Why do we insist on exchanging second-hand goods? I had a pretty arduous day yesterday. It went something like this...

My whole family is ailing (except me, the mother, of course; but my turn is coming I know it) so I had to buy various cold meds; because one doesn't like grape flavor and one doesn't like bubble gum and one is 31 and needs something stronger.

Then I went and got soup, popsicles, orange juice ... all the needed provisions for those sneezing and hacking and burning up and germafying (new word I made up.. thank you) my abode.

I had to get a million (and yes I am not exaggerating here : ) presents for Sunday school teachers, kids church teachers, Missionettes teachers...not to mention that I haven't even gotten a gift for my eldest daughters teacher at school. And here is where I find my fabulous white elephant present. For a moment all is well with the world.

Then I had to drive to Midland to go to Wal-Mart. I am never going there again. Well, at least not during the holiday season. Who knew that there were that many people in the world and why were they all in the Christmas aisle?!

Then off to my doctor, yes me, for those of you who don't know I have been dealing with a pain in my right side for over three years. So yesterday my doctor decides that I have exhausted all my non-surgical avenues and I am finally ready to see a surgeon and have scope done. I told her that I was really concerned about cancer and she said, "No, you would be dead by now and you don't look dead." Some how that was reassuring...I think.

Then back to the house of disease and misery. I think they didn't move the entire time I was gone.

Time for a quick dinner that nobody ate and then off to my church's women's group Christmas party. (Food good, entertainment "interesting", conversation wonderful)

Here is what made my day… giving my white elephant gift. It was the worst one I might add and I am pretty proud of it. However, I don't think the elderly lady that received it was thrilled. But here is to one Grinchy day and a great white elephant gift...

Oh yes, it is a candle!

Could this happen to you?

If anything ever embarrassing has happened to you maybe you will understand. Sunday night we have youth group and I usually wear jeans. After youth group we go to McDs with our Senior Pastor and his family. I was helping my oldest with her food and my Pastors wife said, Christina, sit down right now. So immediately I did what she said. I was so afraid to ask why, because I knew there was something wrong with me. She said, You have a rather large tear in your pants. Ugh! I was totally mortified everyone at the table saw it. You just never want your pastor and his wife seeing your underwear. Thankfully I had a coat to tie around my waist. I scooted myself off to the bathroom, where I became more mortified. Not only was it a tear, it was a tear from the bottom of my belt to the top of my thigh and getting worse with every move. Thank you Lord for my coat. I went back to the table and joked with them (trying to hide my embarrassment) . We tried to figure out when it happened and came to the conclusion that it happened on the way to McDs. I was so thankful that it didnt happen in youth. We had the youth over on Monday and I told the funny story to them. To my shock and to add more to my embarrassment one of the boys said that he noticed it in youth. UghghghghghgughgggUgh Arghghhha. What is wrong with mewhy didnt I feel the ghastly tear!

Mother-in-law dies and there is peace!

Thought the title would catch your attention!

I found myself at the grocery store yesterday and as usual I got stopped by two of our church members. I find that living in a small town your grocery purchases are never private. Which sometimes can be awkward? However, I was there to buy popsicles for school the next day. As I was trying to decide which fancy delight to select, one said, Hello. This woman is such a kind heart and a pleasant individual. She then proceeded to tell me about an answer to prayer which I am always excited to hear about. I had prayed for her daughters circumstances at a womans get-together last month. Her daughter is pregnant. She has complications during pregnancy and has to have someone with her 24/7. Their two bedroom home was really too small for their expanding family. She really just wanted for us to pray for peace in her heart about the whole situation. Well, that is precisely what I prayed, that God would bring peace and be her provider. So hear was the answer. A week later her mother-in-law passed away very suddenly. (This is exactly how she said it) Well, in my crazy head I thought, And this is good because.?! The father-in-law asked them to move in with him. He has a four bedroom home and he evidently is retired. Wow, what and exact answer to prayer, but not at all what I envisioned. I then told her that it wasnt my hope to have someone die. The other lady then said, I guess, I dont want you praying for me someone might die. We all laughed. But we all thanked God for His provision and His plan. Thank the Lord that He sees the bigger picture. What seems to be horrible, He can make something good out of it and answer prayer.

As I was walking in the parking lot with my scribble popsicles (crayon shaped popsicles that change colors when you lick them and quite the hit at school today!) I began to laugh out loud. What a funny thought, God answered my prayer?! someones mother-in-law died and peace was given to her. I am going to be very careful when I pray about my mother-in-law. Hahahahahahahaha I love how God just makes me laugh. What a joy He brings to my heart. I love the sense of humor that He gives to us.

On Turning 30...Looking Back!

Looking back at the twenties

Wow, a lot of first come to mind.

Getting married

Living on my own

Life without school

First place in full time ministry

First pregnancy

First birth

First child

First home

Having a second child

Sending my daughter to kindergarten

Amazing to see how much happened in my twenties. God is so good to me. I am so thankful for the journey He has allowed me to take. I have learned so much about how to be a good wife, mom, sister, daughter, friend, and child of God. I know that God is going to teach me a lot more. I am excited to see what God is going to do next.

Funny side note ...Tonight at dinner my oldest was eating chocolate cake and my youngest yelled out at her, "You're eating stanky dog poop!" Needless to say chocolate cake didn't seem too appetizing anymore. We are getting a little caked out anyway.

Bare Banks!

So, we are sitting around the dinner table and my oldest asks, "How much is our new mini van going to cost?" Of course we tell her, "Thousands of dollars". She than responds by saying, "Let me go check my piggy bank" and quickly leaves the table. When she comes back, John says honey you don't have that kind of money and if you do than you better tell us where you got it right now.
Here is the sweet part…
A little later she comes and gives me a penny and says, "I just want to help!"

She also told her dad she has a new BEAR bank and it is really BARE! As we are laughing, she then proceeds to get it and open it and says, "See I am not joking!"
.. ..
She is just too funny. I love my girls!

Number 3 on the way!

So, once again I find myself pregnant. It wasn't necessarily planned. I cried for about 15 min. and then got excited. The due date is Aug. 30th. I have an ultra sound Jan. 29th. I am not exactly pleased about the "being pregnant" part; however, I am thrilled about the having a baby part. So far, I have not been sick and I am about 12 weeks along, once again I am blessed to not have to experience what most women do the first trimester.

For those of you who are interested in how we told the girls, here we go…

Before dinner, we told them we had a big secret. While we were setting the table, the girls were of course peppering us with questions. We asked them, "What is the best thing you can think of?" My youngest shouted out, "A Gigantic Banana!"
Where in the world do four year olds come up with the stuff? One can only wonder what was going on in that little mind.

We then told them we were going to have a baby. They were very, very, very excited about getting bunk beds. Oh yes, they were very happy about the baby too. My youngest has been going back and forth on what she wants…first a girl…then a boy…then both…then she didn't care which it was just as long as she got a bunk bed. My oldest has been kissing my stomach a few times a day. I don't think I can take six more months of that.

At dinner, we decided to come up with names. We used this opportunity to get them to eat their dinner in a timelier manner; if I do say so myself, it was a rather brilliant idea. After each bite of there meal they were allowed to add a name to the list. Here is the list:

George Washington
Princess
Puppy
Lumpy
Smooshy
Tom
Jerry
Nose picker
Stinky
Burpy
Cheeseburger
Pablo
Catorce
Contortion mouse
Eyeball

Gurgle
Icky
Fart
Squishy
Squash
Cookie crisp
Otis
Maddy
Lampy
Queen
Booger
Isaiah
Freddy
Gnoki
Joseph
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Picture
Skull
Tattoo
Sammy
Arbys
Time watch
Simon Says (my personal favorite)
Gooey-goo
Chicken bawk-bawk
Dog

Well, I hope you enjoyed our list of names! I am sure you will all be on the edge of your seats wondering which one we shall choose.

Pre-School has come!

Something very amazing happened the other day, my youngest went to pre-school. She was kind of funny about it all day. She wanted to go....then didn't....then wanted to.....then didn't. Finally, I had to tell her she simply had to go. She asked, "Why?" Now here is some bad parenting that I do not recommend, I told her that I would go to jail if she did not. Bad, Bad, Bad! Anyway, it worked and after that she did not mention a word about it. When school ended, she could not stop talking about how much fun she had and all the friends she made (even though she couldn't tell me a single name). I was very pleased about how well she did the first day and how excited she was about going the next day.
So now here comes the very pleasant unexpected part, all of a sudden I have three hours all to myself. Huh, I haven't had that in over seven years. I almost do not know what to do with myself, yet I have too much already planned. Does that make any sense moms? The first day, I went out to lunch with John and my sister. It was a nice, quite and peaceful lunch. Yesturday, I went shopping with Jen. And today, John and I went and played golf. Wow, usually we would have to get a babysitter for that. A first also happened, I golfed par on a par 3 hole. This is an amazing feat for me, because usually my goal is to not shoot over ten strokes per hole. LOL All in all, this has been a very good transition. I think... I may get use to this...well maybe.

Welcome to second grade!

Here I find myself again, the first day of school. Today, the sound of my daughters Cinderella alarm clock, which is to the tune of "A Dream is a Wish", started the beginning of the school season. Now of course she popped up like a daisy. This is an amazing thing considering she could not fall asleep until almost eleven o'clock the night before. She was just too excited about school. I think that will change in a few years. She did all the normal things and was done very early. She wanted to be the first one in class, now there is some enthusiasm for you.
On our walk over we prayed and then we went into the busy school. There were parents and children everywhere. There were many "Hello's" to a lot of familiar faces. Welcome to Second Grade it said outside her door. We walked inside, said hello to her teacher, put her stuff on the hook, and she gave me a hug and kiss goodbye. It always seems to be that is more of a problem for me than her.
Once I left, I meandered around the halls looking for excuses to stick around. As I was leaving, I noticed a number of children crying out in the hall. I felt the same way. I felt like crying too. I know…I know, I am just another emotional sappy mom. But, my baby is growing up and I there is nothing I can do about it. I love my children. I love who they are and who they are becoming. I am proud of them. So, bear with me, I know growing up is a part of life; but I do not have to like it. My babies are becoming independent children who like to do things, "All by themselves". I am entering another phase of motherhood that I have to learn with Grace. Letting go has never been something I have enjoyed, but it is always been something that has produced amazing results. So, my darling girl welcome to the second grade!

A Dream is a Wish!

My oldest daughter had a birthday and turned seven yesterday. I told her that she could not get any older and that she had to promise to do so. Her reply was, "I promise not to get any older until next April 24th." I guess I will take what I can get.
We decided that it would be fun to have a big "Cinderella" birthday party this year for her. Looking back, I am rethinking that idea. The celebration was at Pizza Hut, we love that we could leave the mess there. Our list of possible children to invite started with about six. She toiled over which six kids she wanted to invite. We got to a point that she couldn't decide so her brilliant daddy said she could invite two more. It ended up that she invited nine plus her and her sister. What a wild party with eleven.
I really believed I had thought of all the details of this entire affair: 6:00 dinner (we pre-ordered the pizza), 6:30 cupcakes, 7:00 presents and then 7:30 they would be picked up to go home. Sounded like a strategy to me. I even put together a little booklet of games that they could do at the party. At 6:15 they were pretty much done eating. Obviously these children do not eat at a snail's pace as mine do. By 7:00 the party was done and children where underneath the tables, striking each other with magical wands turning them into frogs and roaming around the restaurant. My dearest husband gently asked me, "So are you out of stuff to do?" Ugh! Thankfully, one of my daughter's gifts was this giant Disney coloring book and I was able to save the day by ripping out pages for them to color. Thank goodness that it would probably take a year to color one page. Suggestion to all you mommy's out there….bring more stuff to do than you think you need (trust me you will be glad you did) or better yet go to Chuckie- Cheese. I wish we had one of those fine establishments here.
My sister was there and was fabulous. My husband was very helpful. I am so thankful that they were there to help or I almost certainly would have pulled out my hair. The party did turn out wonderful and my oldest said she had a great time. I told John she wasn't going to have another party like that for awhile; but I am sure I will forget that next year.

DON'T LOOK OUT MY WINDOW!

It always amazes me how my girls are so much like my sister and I. Actually, I find it funny how this was and is for most siblings. I remember the torture I use to inflict upon my poor darling sister. Things like holding my finger millimeters away from her and Jen yelling, "MOM, Christina is touching me!" Then I would reply in a sassy tone, "NO, I am not." We would fight all the time in the car and I remember my dad saying, "Do you want me to pull over this car and spank your butt?!" Well, of course no one wants that. Needlessly to say, last night I heard something strangely familiar in the back seat of our car. It went something like this...
Hey, give me my picture back!
No, I am looking at it!
Well, if you don't give it back I am going to look out YOUR window!
No, don't do that look out your own window!
If you don't give me my picture back then I am going to look out your window FOREVER!
Then my 4 year old replied, "If you look out my window forever then your neck will hurt!"
John and I just started laughing...it's true if she looked out that window forever then her neck would hurt.
You gotta love siblings. Hey, Jen I love you and don't look out my window!

Little girls and Luke 21

Last night we read from our little devotional Bible with our girls, it went like this...
Luke 21
This woman (there was a nice picture to the right to go along with the story just in case you were wondering) is giving all the money she has to God's house. She is thankful for everything God has given her. She loves God and knows He will take care of her. God wants us to be thankful for all he has given us. What can you thank God for giving you?
So in "Top Ten" format here is what my 4 & 6 year old girls came up with.
10. House (I was proud of this one, simply because it wasn't Barbie and the Magic of the Rainbow, it was deep and not superficial)
9. Food (Once again proud of the response)
8. Widows for our house. (Okay very random, but I can see the need for such things... since we were having a nice ice storm during our devotions. I don't want ice in my house.)
7. Animals ( Yes, animals are a good thing to be thankful for. I like to eat some of them. I didn't tell them that and a good thing considering what came next.)
6. Pets (See I told you it was a good thing I didn't tell them the previous.)
5. Swimming pools (What?! We don't own a swimming pool ...well wait, we do. It's a 4ft round above ground and about a 1 1/2 ft. deep. Very cold it is...cold indeed. It does provided great entertainment for a 4 & 6 year old. However, I don't think she was talking about that pool. I think she was talking more along the lines of Zhenders Splash Park in Frankenmuth. Now that is a pool, my friends)
4. Lamp (My four year old just got this fabulous lamp from Grandpa and Grandma M. It is unlike any lamp I ever owned in my life. It is a Tinker Bell lamp. It plays music and Tinker bell spins around when you turn it off and on. If I was a four year old and got a cool lamp like that ...I be thankful too!)
3. Barbies ( I knew it was coming)
2. Here is where I was hoping for something great like mommy and daddy, grandparents, church, God or something; but it never came. However, that is okay because what came next was priceless...
1. Hermit Crabs (What? LOL)

Here is another great one about my 4 year old.
Last week she graduated to big kids church. What an exciting event in a little girls life. No more nursery (this was a little bitter sweet since the last 6 years my life has been involved with nursery somehow...no more babies in the Johnson household). Now if you know my daughter there is never a dull moment with her. I was very concerned about how the transition was going to go down. Overall, it went very well except.... during kids church she stood up pointed her finger at the leader and said, "You're really weird." Not once but four times! Oh, and did I mention he is a board member?!

Oh Tanenbaum

So we put up our tree on Monday. It ended up being an all day event, which seems to happen with things like that when you have children.

Side note my oldest got to stay home because she had scarlet fever. Yeah, people died from that, like Beth in Little Women. Anywho....

Back to the tree story! We strung cranberries and popcorn, that ended up being mostly me. The girls gave up after about a foot and a half. We watched "The Polar Express". Then John came home and brought in the fake tree from our garage. So my oldest really helped put up the tree this year. However, when we were separating the limbs she insisted on counting them out in Spanish. As a result, piles of branches got miscounted. She later came to this conclusion on her own and boldly stated, "I guess I should have just counted in English!" I love six year olds. Ok, so I have included pictures, take special note on the first picture how high ALL the ornaments go. LOVE IT! Of course John wanted to leave it exactly like that. But the Martha in me just couldn't do it. Also notice my youngest choice of clothing. I have for some insane lapse of judgment been letting her pick out her clothes and that is what she picked out.

When PK's show thier true colors!

So here is what happened on Sunday, all you mom's out there will appreciate this. The girls and I went to my parent's church; and they usually sit with us the entire service because they are a little shy and don't want to go to kid's church. All was well until my youngest decided she was hungry. So very loudly she says, "Mommy I am hungry. I want my candy." I told her to be quite church was almost over and we were going out to eat. She then proceeded to talk very loudly and repetitively, "Mommy I want candy. I am hungry". So like all good mothers, I marched her right out of the sanctuary with her saying, "NO MOMMY". Then begins my horrific nightmare, we went to the foyer and now she is crying very dramatically and I think she may have had a bullhorn at this point (I didn't see it but she must have had one). I then carried her downstairs to the young adult classroom. (They have couches so I thought that might be a good place, but really in light of the matter a place with a straight jacket might have been more appropriate) There I told her of her impending doom. She received some Proverbs 13:24 punishment when I really felt more like giving her Proverbs 23:14 punishment. I then told her she was then going to sit in time out. I think it was I who really needed a time out. Then with the most defiant voice she looked me straight in the eye and said no several times and then got up. Then it was like all the rage in me came pouring out. I told her she would sit in time out even if I had to hold her there. She said "NO". I said "Yes" picked her up and put her on my lap. Then it was like the battle of the wills, she then cried harder and then began kicking me. If things couldn't get worse…they did. My mother comes down and says they can all hear her in the sanctuary. She said, "They want her in pastor's office." In my mind, I was thinking," You have got to be joking." I came out with her in my arms, mind you she is still screaming, and there is my dad, an usher, and some other mother. Ok… this is where I break and try to hold back the tears. As gracefully as I can with a screaming child we go in the office. To make a long story short, She stops crying, she sits in time out, she gets grounded, she cries again, we have to go out and sit in my fathers van, she cries to almost barfing, we don't go out to eat (that ticked me off cause I wanted some yummy food therapy by then), we went home, not to mention some advice from caring church members along the way (one of my favorites, give her a doughnut that will shut her up).

The next day I give her the item from which she was grounded. We went over the things she did wrong and how she should have responded. She sighed like life was so tough. I asked her, "Is it hard to be three?" She said, "Yes!" I then asked her, "Why is it so hard?" Her answer was the following and I will end this nightmare with it, "Mommy, I just don't know what big girls do." Ain't that the truth!

Yankee Doodle

So here is the song my 1st grader brought home today. Yankee Doodle went to town riding on a heater. Turned it up to 64 and then he burnt his wiener. What concerns me the most is John said, "64 is not hot enough to burn his wiener". Now for all you concerned adults we did talk about how she should not sing that song even though everyone else was singing it. But really John the temp. was not the problem. Hahahahahaha! (side note...he didn't make that remark to our daughter. He made it when we were telling Pastor Brad.) So I thought I blog about this story. Thought you all might get a kick out of it. Oh, words of advice boys, don't sit on a heater.

Ugh...1st grade!

My oldest started first grade this week. I believe it is harder for me than her. She loves growing up. I reminded her that she broke her promise to me that she would never grow up. We decided that it can't be stopped. UGH! On Tuesday, at dinner we heard every detail. I believe she talked for an hour non-stop. Everything from carpet time to who she played with at first recess, her new desk, who she sat by at lunch, the fact that she didn't have her gym shoes for gym(because I was for sure she wouldn't have gym the first day of school...ha), to every detail of a story that her teacher read. I think she took a breath in that hour.it's a little vague. So the question for you, do you remember having snack time in first grade? I dont think we did, neither does John. I think we were robbed of that precious refueling.

Girls Prayer

My daughters prayers tonight...

My youngest,

Dear Jesus, Thank you for my mommy, daddy, sissy and me. Thank you for the water balloons and the waterslide. (They played in the water yesterday at their friends house) Amen!

My oldest,

Dear Jesus, Thank you for my mommy, daddy, sissy and me. And You know that thing sissy prayed for... it wasn't a waterslide it was a slip-in-slide. Amen!

I love how she thought she needed to inform God about sissy's faux pas.

Nakedness

My three year old has decided to become a nudist. Seriously, the last two days as soon as her pajamas come off she scurries about singing. "I love to be naked." I am troubled. Hummmm

I am a daisy!

Yesterday, I helped at my daughter's school. The children had a time where they could share something with the rest of the class. Most of the kids shared about vacations, things they have done with their parents, or exciting news. It was my daughters turn, and I thought to myself, "What is she going to say?" She went up and in the sweetest voice started to sing. " I am a daisy and I will be happy. I will be good and helpful too. As I do right then all those around me, Jesus can see You. Shine my light. Shine my light. See the things I do. Shine my light. Shine my light I'll be a light for YOU." Wow, how proud I am to get to be her mom.

The Girls Favorite Bible Stories

We were putting the girls to bed last night. We asked them what their favorite Bible story was. Our oldest spoke up and said that she liked the story about the man with spots. The story she is referring to is the story of Naaman which is found in 2 Kings 5. She likes that he has to wash in the pool seven times to be healed of his leprosy. We then asked our youngest what was her favorite, she said, "When God made berries!" "Cause I like berries", she said. Intrigued by this, we asked her, "Why else did she like that story?" She replied, " When He made the bananas, ...and gapes,... and apples. I like it when God made all the food that He wanted to eat. " Okay, you must have figured it out by now that my daughter has a passion for food.

Happy Birthday-funny story!

Well, both of my daughters got up very early this morning (they did not have school) because they were too excited about my youngest turning three. Happy Birthday, little one! I love you!

Here is a funny conversation my oldest had with my mother. They were talking about teeth and why we loose our baby teeth (her's are loose, which she is very excited about).

My mom asked, "Why do you think God made it so we would loose our baby teeth?"

She replied, "That's the way God made us"

Then she said, "When God makes you alive again, you can ask Him."

She then told my mom, " You will get to go there first!" (Happy 60th mom)

Then she said, "Well, maybe great grandmother and great grandfather will go there first." (Well then I guess you got some time mom)

My Little Fairy

My blog is dedicated to my little one who is having a birthday this week(Tinker Bell is the theme).

Well my sister bought my daughter a fairy costume to play in for her birthday. Thanks Jen, she has been wearing it for the last three days. I am gonna have to wash it, because just about every meal is on it. She wants to wear it tomorrow too. She wore it to church last Sunday. Yes, folks I let my daughter prance around our church in her fairy wings and toe shoes. I am sure God had a chuckle about that one. I don't know what our people will think about it though if she shows up in it tomorrow. They may begin to question my parenting skills. Well my sweet fairy we shall see what the day shall bring, wings or no wings.

Happy Birthday Dear!

A Great Booger Story,

Today, on the way to church my two year old said,"MOMMY, I got a booger!"

I said, "So...what about it?"

She replied, "Mommy, get it out"

I said, "You get it."

She said, " I can't it's stuck".

I asked, "Where is it stuck?"

She then replied, "It is stuck in my mouth, I can't get. You get it for me."

So needless to say I had to scrap the half eaten booger off the back of her front teeth. I LOVE BEING A MOM.

Moral- If your gonna eat your boogers make sure you don't get them stuck in your teeth.

Blast from the Past - More to Life

So I want to transfer some of my old blogs from an old never used blog I have. So I think I will post them here every now and then. I hope you enjoy them!

More to Life

Yesterday, I was cleaning my house and stumbled over a photo book that was out of place. Instead of putting it away, I decided to look at it and reminisce. I came across the pictures from the car accident John and I were in. For those who dont know John and I were hit by a drunk driver and our car wrapped around a light poll. I was studying the picture of the car and it had an effect on me that I had not had before. I have absolutely no memory of the accident and was told how I came within inches of dying. I didnt really think that the picture of the car looked that bad until yesterday. To be honest I started to tear up, not because I almost died but because of the grace of God.

Time and time again, God has shown me that He has a far greater purpose for my life. He has shown me that in very obvious ways such as the car accident , but also in not so obvious ways too. God showed me that a life without Him is not really a life at all. I thank God that He wasnt finished with me then and until I leave this earth He is still not finished with me now.

For those of you reading this, let this be an encouragement. God has His thumbprint on your life. He loves you so much and has a wonderful plan ,that is so much greater than you can even imagine, for you. Life is so much more than things, possessions, friends, money, respect, or status. It is about giving your life to a Holy God and serving others. When you give your life to Christ, life suddenly has a purpose! Anything outside of Him is of no real value.

Thank you Lord for your Grace. Let us not forget that!

31 Virtues for our Kids ~ Purity

Purity

Over the next few months we will be praying for 31 Virtues for our Kids maybe even for ourselves too!

Psalm 51:10 (King James Version)
10Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

I love watching my children create things out of their art supplies. They are always so proud of their creations. Whether it is a crayon drawing or a vest and hat made out of duct tape, creating is definitely a major part of our household. One of my favorite things to do is create stuff. I like to paint, make crafty things, change old things and make them new; that is the reason I like this verse. The psalmist is asking God to create something in his heart, a clean heart. He wants to have a pure heart and a right spirit.

I love how God can take something old, used or ugly and make something new, beautiful and alive! I truly believe this is a verse we should pray into our lives everyday.
This is a verse about purity. My girls have been learning a lot about purity in their girl's church clubs on Wednesday nights. Purity is being clean on the inside...that is what God wants for us. We need His help. We can not get clean on our own. That is why this verse is so powerful and why we should pray it for our children and for ourselves. We need God to purify us ...give us that clean heart and right spirit.

*"Create in them a pure heart, O God, and let that purity of heart be shown in their actions"

31 Virtues for our Kids ~ Courage

Courage

Over the next few months we will be praying for 31 Virtues for our Kids maybe even for ourselves too!

Deuteronomy 31:6 (New International Version)
6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

I always tell my kids, "Never let your fears keep you from doing things you want to do." I like what Babe Ruth said, "Don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game. Did you know he had like 714 home runs, Amazing! But did you also know that he struck out 1330 times. He is still considered the greatest Major League Baseball player of all time. What if Babe Ruth let the fear of striking out get in his head and not overcome it? I daresay he would not be the legend he is today.

This passage in Deuteronomy is were we find Joshua filling the job of his predecessor. I think Joshua probably felt very inadequate to fill the shoes of Moses. I mean come on ...Moses took on Pharaoh, the Red Sea, talked with God face to face and lived. Moses had lead them to the promise land and now it was Joshua's job to take them in. It was a new land, with new enemies and a lot of people following him. Joshua's resume paled in comparison. The resposibility was probably overwhelming to say the least. But it is here we hear the most encouraging words from our Father God to Joshua. And it is here we see a man willing... rise up and take the plate...

Wow, this verse is for us as well. God's character is so very clear here in Deuteronomy. His character never changes. He does not want us to be fearful or terrified. God is with us. He is with our children. So no matter what things come their way, He is with them. What an empowering verse. (I think this will be a memory verse for them and for me)

*"May my children always be strong and courageous in their character and in their actions"

I am going to add and may their fears never keep them from doing the will of the Father!
