"Get Joy" Book Verses

A new friend of mine, Leslie (who happens to be a scrapbooker extraordinaire!), made me this beautiful empty book to fill with something. It took me a little while to decide but now that I have... I love it! I thought I would take the next few post and share what I wrote on those pages.

I have been going through some discouraging times lately mostly of my own making. I decided to fill those beautifully crafted pages with my favorite verses and important people in my life. The book sits on my nightstand for me to read before I go to sleep. I read it to remind me of God's promises and that He always keeps them. I read them to remind me of what this life is about. I read them to remind me of the people I love. I read them to remind of the God I serve. I read them to remind me of the God I adore. I read them to remind me of God's great, deep and wide love for me. And as I fall asleep the cares of this world grow strangely dim.

The first verse on the inside page is this....

This is the verse that sparked the name of my blog. I love this verse because it reminds us of where true joy comes from. God alone gives us joy and it strengthens us. When we go through dark or discouraging times we must remember that Christ alone is our help. That Christ alone gives us strength. Christ alone is our sure foundation! We could all use a little "Joy of the Lord" ....well maybe a LOT of "Joy of the Lord" everyday!

Today...

Pepsi and JOY!

Sometimes in life God drops little reminders of what He is trying to do in our lives. The other day while shopping for supplies and trying to check out at the seemingly very busy supercenter and wondering how long this was going to take.... something grabbed my attention. Sitting in a sea of blue pop can bottles that said LOL was sitting a single yellow pop can that said JOY on it. Even now thinking about it...I have to laugh. Thanks Lord for the reminder to Laugh Out Loud and that You alone are my Joy!

So it sits on the back of my stove to remind me everyday to...

Oh, I had to use a bottle opener to open it which surprised me. I was expecting it to twist off. I actually had to dig to find my bottle opener. The girls and I shared the pop. It was almost as good as having it out of a glass bottle.

Get Joy

I titled this blog "Get Joy", because it is theme that I try to live out in my life. I got it from a long time ago when I had an accountability partner and we would remind each other of this phrase when life seemed to bog us down. It has stuck over the years and always brings a smile to my heart.

So what does it mean to "Get Joy"? Well, to "Get Joy" means when we allow the joy of the Lord to consume our minds, our souls and our hearts. When we are walking in His joy, things of this world that discourage us suddenly are put back into the right perspective. When God is the source of our life, He brings us pure delight and He delights in us. He reminds us of how much He loves us and that He has everything in control.
His joy becomes our strength.

I love these verses about Joy!

Psalm 16:11
"You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore."

John 15:11
"These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full."

Nehemiah 8:10

Then he said to them, "Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our LORD. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."

So with that...
GET JOY!
